You scheduled your dermaplaning session – what happens before, during, & after?
Prior to your appointment, we recommend that you review the pre- and post- procedure instructions:

Upon arrival to our facility, you’ll be asked to fill out some standard treatment and consent forms and read a few disclaimers. You’ll be escorted back to our treatment room. We will then discuss possible treatment complications such as redness or peeling.
The medical aesthetician, with the doctor, will review your medical history, current medications, and your skin care concerns. You’ll be able to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have about the procedure. This helps ensure that Dermaplaning is appropriate for you.
Be sure to tell us if you have had a cosmetic procedure in the past, scar easily, or have ever had a keloid (a type of raised scar). It also is important for us to know if you have recently used any topical retinoids (like Retin-A, Differin) or oral isotretinoin (like Accutane). We recommend waiting 6 months or longer after taking the last dose of oral isotretinoin and at least 7 days after stopping topical retinoids. This reduces the risk of side effects from the procedure. Patients on blood thinners are poor candidates for Dermaplaning.
You’ll lie comfortably on our treatment bed. Your skin will be gently cleansed to remove oils and makeup, ensuring a more effective procedure. Depending on your needs, a chemical peel may be placed to enhance the results of your Dermaplaning treatment.
The procedure itself involves the use of a sterile surgical blade known as a dermatome. The dermatome is held against the skin at a 45-degree angle and stroked across the skin. This method removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells and peach fuzz leaving your skin soft and supple. You may feel a scratching sensation, which is uncomfortable, but not painful. Anesthesia is not required. Dermaplaning is usually performed on the face and generally excludes the nose, eyelids, neck and chest.
The treated skin may be pink or slightly red. If the skin is red, this should disappear within a day. Very aggressive treatments can lead to some mild flaking of the skin for about 1 week.
You will surely notice a youthful glow to your skin.
